Rome I

So here are some pictures from our vacation (finally!). We went in March/April to Italy for 2 weeks with Jay's parents and sister, Alita. It was a lot of fun, and very educational.

Rome was not built in a day... and it is hard to visit all of it in a week, but we gave it our best shot.

Below is what the city was supposed to look like back in it's prime.

Spanish Steps. Ever seen "Roman Holiday"?

Emmilene thought it was very considerate that all the hotels had a sink just for her, although her parents wouldn't let her use it.

We ate a lot of pizza... and I am trying to convince Jay we need one of these ovens in our tiny NYC apartment.

We met early with a group of other English-speakers for a tour of the old city, including the Colosseum and Roman Forum.

Doesn't the Martian from Looney Toones dress like this?

The Roman Forum, which was once covered with palaces, temples, and shrines (see the picture at the top).

Priests...

Resting after the tour...

This is all that is left of Julius Caesar, at least the temple where he was cremated. Romans still pay homage to him, as you see.

Trevi Fountain

Legend is if you toss a coin over your shoulder, you will return to Rome. I don't know if it looks too good for Emmi.

David and Linda were being shadowed by their future selves...

Plaza Navona. You may remember from "Angels and Demons" (A&D) where the last guy is thrown in the fountain (sorry if that spoils the movie).
These two ladies in the front are so Italian.

She looks so angelic here, but this is just before she ran into an antique china shop and gave the owner a heart-attack.

Pantheon

Rafael's tomb in Pantheon. (A&D reference as well)

City office building, I think.

Impressive chalk drawing on sidewalk. Emmi can aspire to this.
